The Mountain Pine Ridge
1000 ft Waterfall – Big Rock Waterfall – Rio On Pools & Rio Frio Cave
The Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve – the largest national park in Belize and located right near Mariposa Jungle Lodge – embraces over 300 square miles of pine forest with large pockets of limestone, which created an abundance of spectacular caves in the area. Throughout the day, your guide will be telling you about the various flora and fauna you come across, as well as local history and places of cultural significance. The day includes stops at.
Rio Frio Cave, an awesome (literally and figuratively) walk-through cave that’s big enough even for claustrophobics. Learn about limestone stalactites, stalagmites, columns and other natural formations in one of the most photographic sites in the Cayo District.
The small village of Augustine, where you’ll learn about the history of logging and current Forestry projects.
Rio On Pools, a continuous series of natural pools formed within granite boulders connected by small rapids or waterfalls (swimming optional at this stop).
Lunch on your own at Gaia River Lodge (formerly known as the Five Sisters Lodge) and a ride on Belize’s only hydro-powered rain forest tram to see the five gorgeous waterfalls that give the Lodge its former name.
Big Rock Falls, where you’ll have time to swim in the natural waterfalls and pools.
1000 Foot Falls, the tallest waterfall in Central America (it’s actually 1,600 feet!).
