Belize Zoo

The Belize Zoo is fondly known in Belize as “The Best Little Zoo in the World.”  Started in 1983 when 17 animals were left Belize-Zoo-2 (1)from the filming of a natural history documentary, this delightful  Belize jungle zoo has grown and now features over 125 animals, including the rare Harpy Eagle. The Zoo offers the only opportunity to see virtually all indigenous Belize animals, most of which are nocturnal and elusive to two-legged visitors.  Most popular are the playful Spider Monkeys, Howler Monkeys and awesome Jaguars, as well as a number of Tapirs (Mountain Cows), the National Animal of Belize.

Over 125 native animals are housed as closely as possible to their natural habitats on the 29 acre Belize Zoo site. The Belize Zoo animals were either born, orphaned or rehabilitated at the Zoo,  or sent to The Belize Zoo as gifts from other zoological institutions.

This tour is best done en route to or from Mariposa Jungle Lodge to save transportation time and cost.
